Where to Buy Roofing Materials Cheap

If you are buying materials yourself, these channels give the best prices:

Roofing distributors (deepest discounts)

Regional distributors like ABC Supply, Beacon Roofing Supply and SRS (and RONA Pro or Roofmart in Canada) regularly sell clearance and overstock at 40% to 60% below retail. They mostly serve contractors, but many will sell to homeowners who call and ask about clearance stock.

Big-box stores

Home Depot and Lowe's keep clearance sections in the roofing aisle, marked with orange (Home Depot) or red (Lowe's) tags. Stock changes weekly and varies by store, so check often. Their everyday shingle prices are competitive too, since they buy in huge volume.

Marketplaces and remainders

Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist often list contractor remainder lots and leftover bundles at steep discounts. Buy matching lot numbers when you can so colors blend.

Not sure of your roof area? A rough rule: roof area is usually 1.1 to 1.5 times your home footprint. A 1,500 sq ft single-story home often has a 1,700 to 2,200 sq ft roof.
